The council meetings, which are usually held every fourth Wednesday at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Rockaway Beach; were moved for this month only in an attempt to address the needs of the Broad Channel community in specific. 100 Precinct Deputy Inspector Thomas Barrett was in attendance to talk to residents.

The 100 Precinct awarded the February Cop of the Month awards to anticrime unit police officers Carlos Cano and Michael Johnston. During the early morning hours of February 10, the officers stopped a man covered in blood near Beach 72 Street and Beach Channel Drive.

Shortly after stopping the man, officers Cano and Johnston overheard on the police radio that an assault had been reported in the vicinity of where they spotted him.

While one officer stayed with the man, who was covered in blood, another responded to the scene of the assault to find the man had stabbed a 13-year-old girl, her pregnant 30-year-old mother and another man.

According to police, the man was at a party inside the house when a domestic altercation broke out leading to the assaults.
