Frankie Shakeen Purvis
Frankie Shakeen Purvis, a lifelong Rockaway resident, died January 15.
Purvis was born in Far Rockaway at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital on June 16, 1981. He worked for Sprint as a sales representative.
Purvis was preceded in death by Deacon James Hardy, Deaconess Sadie Hardy, Franklyn Purvis, Mary C. Purvis, Tyrone Green, Eddie Hardy, Ronald Hardy and Freddie Purvis.
He is survived by his parents, Frankie Purvis and Mary Purvis; brother, Desean Ryan; sisters, Ciera Purvis of Far Rockaway, Crystal Purvis of Norfolk, Virginia and Jada Purvis of Far Rockaway.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney Friendship Chapel, Inwood, New York. Interment took place at Trinity St. John Cemetery, Hewlett, New York. Cleveland Hopkins Zanders Jr. Entrepreneur
Cleveland Hopkins Zanders Jr., a longtime Rockaway resident, died March 2.
Zanders was born in Augusta, Georgia on August 8, 1933. He was an entrepreneur and served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1954 during the Korean War.
Zanders was preceded in death by his parents; aunt, Luella, and daughters, Joyce and Nicole.
He is survived by his wife Marjorie; children, Cleveland, Lois, Calvin, Mark, Seth, Marland and Jeffrey; 16 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; cousins, Mamie and AnnieMae; and companion, Josephine Smith.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney Friendship Chapel, Inwood, New York. Interment took place at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, New York.
