I’ll Tear Out Your [Expletive] Bike Lanes

Weiner To Bloomberg

Congressman Anthony Weiner has indicated that he would get rid of unwanted bike lanes such as this “shared” bike lane on Rockaway Beach Boulevard. There are two things clear about Congressman Anthony Weiner.

He badly wants to become mayor of New York City.

And, he hates the bike lanes placed all over the city by present Mayor Michael Bloomberg and his Department of Transportation Commissioner Janette Sadik-Kahn as much as the people who have to live with them each day.

According to the New York Times, Weiner and Bloomberg were recently together at a dinner for the city Congressional delegation at Gracie Mansion.

When Weiner got Bloomberg’s ear for a moment, he reportedly told the mayor, “When I become mayor, you know what I’m going to spend my first year doing? I’m going to have a bunch of ribbon-cuttings, tearing out your [expletive] bike lanes.”

Bloomberg reportedly looked resignedly at Weiner and said, “Tell me about it.”

When asked about his comment to the mayor as he walked along Newport Avenue at the recent Irish parade, Weiner laughed about the quote, which was the lead in a long New York Times story about Sadik-Kahn.

“It does typify what the mayor and Sadik-Kahn are all about,” Weiner said. “It certainly told the story.”
