Tough Defense Sparks St. Rose Of Lima Win

St. Rose of Lima fifth grade boys are soaring in the CYO Basketball playoffs. The boys traveled to Jackson Heights to play Our Lady of Hope. Petiri Edmond “Puda” scored 25 points to help St. Rose to a 43-30 win.

St. Rose took an 8 point lead in the first quarter. Our Lady of Hope in started coming back the second quarter to cut the St. Rose halftime lead to 18-13. St. Rose switched from a man to man defense to a 2-2-1 zone.

Peter Delfeus, Sam Amato, Justin Baronowski, David Greenidge and Angelo Fenty each played a part in making the move pay off for St. Rose in the second half.

Charlie Bostwick swished in seven points, Mike Reardon had six points and Liam Malsy added five points. The boys next game is Saturday March 12 at 10 a.m. vs. Sacred Heart of Glendale.

The game will be held at Corpus Christi (31-29 60th Street) in Woodside. St. Rose is proud to announce that John O’Brien is the fan of the week for helping the team with Thursday night’s practice.
