Open Basketball Tryout For People’s Games
The People’s Games is a new sports concept that offers athletes the opportunity to represent their cities in competition against other US cities in a battle to prove which city has the best athletes in various sports.
The program will launch with a basketball competition between New York City and Los Angeles in a best-of-three series to be played in May. New York Knicks legend “Earl the Pearl” Monroe will coach New York’s team, and former UCLA great Lucius Allen, who played on John Wooden’s National Championship teams and later for the Lakers, will coach the L.A. team.
Open tryouts will be held at the Al Oerter Recreation Center, located at 131-40 Fowler Avenue in Flushing on Sunday, March 13 from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Participants must be a resident of New York City, be 18 years of age or older and have no professional basketball experience.
The People’s Games will begin in early May with a best of three championship basketbal finals series. Participants can register for tryouts by going to www.PeoplesGames.com or by calling 1-800-TPG-3098
