Under the supervision of the Department of Dentistry of Peninsula Hospital Center, the Colgate Dental Van recently returned to the Rockaways.

The van was staffed by Peninsula Hospital personnel who provided PS 47 students with free dental screenings, treatment referrals and oral health education. The elementary school children of P. S. 47 had the opportunity to board the van and learn about the various components of the van itself, dental hygiene and the importance of regular dental visits. As each child came on board, she or he received a brief pep talk about why and how to brush his/her teeth and the importance of taking care of his/her mouth.

In addition, each child received a basic “look-see” dental examination with the results given to the children to bring home to their parents for review. Everyone left the van with a toothbrush, a brushing chart and coupons courtesy of the Colgate Company.
