On Valentine’s Day, Deacon Jimmy Stillwell celebrated his 60th birthday by being honored by State Assemblywoman Michele Titus with a Citation for Community Service. As executive director of the Samaritan Hands Outreach Center of St. John Baptist Church, he was also honored with a Proclamation for Community Activism from State Senator Malcolm Smith at a Fitness and Wellness Seminar, held at the Arverne church on Saturday, February 26.

Deacon Stillwell has been active in community advocacy for the well being of families for the past 14 years in the Rockaways. Through the Samaritan Hands Outreach Center, he has worked consistently to provide counseling addressing drug and alcohol addictions. The Center also offers tutorial services for children, distributes food, clothing, furniture, and supports families in need. Finally, Stillwell oversees a church health ministry addressing diabetes, heart disease, cancer, HIV/AIDS testing and counseling. As a medical social worker at Joseph Addabbo Family Health Care Center, he is able to refer patients to professionals in these areas with the appropriate counseling and concern.
