On February 2, the Beach Channel/ Channel View School for Research girls Lacrosse Team was awarded the prestigious NYC Team of the Year Award. This honor was given to them because they won the PSAL girls lacrosse championship two years in a row under the leadership of Coach Sam Innes.

The organization felt that this was a well-deserved award given to a relatively young team (three years) with little or no prior experience in the sport.

A banquet was held in their honor as part of the National Girls and Women in Sports day. Laura Gentile, vice president of ESPN, was the keynote speaker.

The girls were treated like royalty afterwards, getting to watch a Knicks game from PSAL suite at the Garden. Many of the team members are being pursued by major colleges, which includes CVSR’s Cynthia Smalls, last year awarded a scholarship to Howard University.
