Kevin J. Kennedy
Kevin J. Kennedy was born in Craigueachullaire, Dunmore, County Galway, the sixth son of the late John and Delia Gannon Kennedy. He attended Strawberry Hill National School in the Parish of Dunmore, where the late Sean Purcell, the great Galway footballer taught school. Kevin’s brothers: Jack is at home in Dunmore; Brother Hyacinth Kennedy, Irish Franciscan Brothers, Oxward, California; Brendan lives in Lancashire, England; his brother Peter, R.I.P; Brother Patrick, R.I.P., who was attached to the United Nations Headquarters in Jerusalem; and James, R.I.P., was a Bayside High School teacher.
Kevin arrived in New York on New Year’s Day in 1961. He lived in Louisville, Kentucky from 1961-1963. He came back to NY in 1964 and is now a Superintendent of an apartment complex on the upper east side of Manhattan. He is an usher at his local Church, St. Thomas Moore.
Kevin is a Delegate from the Galway Association to the United Irish Counties, and is the Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, San Salvador Council #174. He was President of the Galway Association in 1985-86, chaired three St. Patrick’s Dinner Dances, the Galway Communion Mass and Breakfast and many other functions. He was the Manhattan Chairman of the Irish Franciscan Brothers Committee for 20 years. He was honored by the Galway Association in 1985 and by the Pioneer Total Abstinence Association on October 16, 1994.
Kevin is Chairman of the Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind, NY branch. He organizes many events to raise funds for this dedicated organization, which trains dogs for the blind in County Cork, Ireland.
Kevin was the Founder of the Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind in 1995 with the Late Jim and Helen Grogan.
