Elizabeth Guarino

Wave Columnist

Elizabeth Guarino, a longtime Broad Channel resident, died February 25.

Guarino was a freelance writer and co-author of the photographic book, “Images of America: Broad Channel.” She was a dedicated adult literacy volunteer at Peninsula Library. Most notably she was the author of the long running Wave column “Broad Channel Bits.” She graduated Queens College GSLIS and went on to study for her master’s at Queens College. Guarino wrote for the publication Able News, written by, for and about people with disabilities. She was also the editor of “The Channel News,” a publication of the Broad Channel Civic Association. As a devoted active member of her community she was named an Everyday Hero by Newsday.

Guarino is survived by her husband, Dan; children, Len and Donna; and grandchildren, Isabella, Sam, Jasmin, Jeremy and Lorenzo.

Funeral arrangements remained private.
