Stabbing At Sandcastle Houses

By Miriam Rosenberg

At what was once thought of as one of the safest places in Far Rockaway, police responded to a stabbing call, and what may have also been an attempted robbery, last Sunday morning at 711 Seagirt Avenue, the former Roy Reuther Houses, now the Sandcastle.

According to police, at approximately 11:30 a.m. on February 20, a black male – whose name the police would not release – was stabbed once in the abdomen in the lobby of 711 Seagirt Avenue in the A building of the complex.

“[The victim] was transported to Jamaica Hospital,” said a police source. “His injuries are not life threatening.”

While the attempted robbery has not yet been confirmed, an arrest has been made.

According to the Queens District Attorney’s office, James Hill was arrested on Monday and charged with the following: two counts of second degree assault, one count of fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon, and one count of second degree harassment. As of Tuesday, a police source said the 101 Precinct detective squad was still investigating the matter.
