Bloomberg’s Shoes

Dear Editor,

Two months ago I read with interest in several newspapers that the mayor owns only two pairs of shoes. Recently, I read where he stuck his foot in his mouth while insulting the Irish. Also recently I read and heard from various news outlets that the mayor is looking to steal the Variable Supplement Fund from retired police officers and firefighters. The fund is a pension benefit that the retirees have had since 1986. For many retirees the VSF money that they receive can equal as much as forty percent of their total pension money. Many retirees need the VSF to survive. The retirees worked at least twenty years to be eligible to receive the VSF money. The mayor refers to the VFS as a “Christmas bonus.” I find it insulting to Catholics and the retirees that the mayor refers to the VSF pension benefit in this way. Why not call it a Chanukah or Kwanza benefit? Do any of us spend forty percent of our income on holiday presents?

I believe the mayor is looking to steal from as many good people as Bernie Madoff did. Apparently the mayor needs a new pair of shoes. Either he has gotten a shoe or two stuck in an orifice or he’s outgrown his shoes and is in discomfit and bad temper. Either way, I suggest that all New Yorkers who are tired of a mayor who bought and stole a third term, and is totally out of touch with the people he supposedly represents, send him a message, or more specifically a pair of old shoes before he needs to steal someone else’s.

Mail the shoes to Mayor Mike Madoff care of M. Bloomberg 17 East 79 Street, New York, NY 10075. Maybe after the mayor receives a few thousand pairs of old shoes he’ll open a used shoe store and leave the rest of us alone.

Maybe at least he’ll take a walk.
