By Nicholas Briano

A Far Rockaway home health aide caring for an 81-year-old woman in Long Island has been charged with grand larceny after stealing an estimated $130,000 in rare coins from the patient’s home, according to published reports.

Nassau County detectives arrested Sonia Walsh, 43, last Friday. She is accused of stealing the coins from a North Hills woman in October 2009. According to police, she is also accused of fraudulently cashing a $210 check last month belonging to an 83-year-old man for whom she was working.

Walsh was arraigned at Nassau County District Court in Hempstead and held on $2,000 bond or $1,000 cash. She was charged with second degree grand larceny and possession of a forged instrument.

Police are seeking other potential victims of Walsh and urge anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
