Kearney’s Retas Scores 1000th Point

Senior Samantha Retas scored her 1000th point last Sunday in a nonleague girls basketball game against St. John Villa in Staten Island. The game was a tense one but everyone breathed a sigh of relief as Retas’ free throw towards the end of the third quarter brought her to the magic number. Overall, she scored 23 points including two free throws in the final seconds, to clinch the 49-46 win for her team, over the host school. Allison Gasparino’s play added to the final score, as did the three-pointers of Maureen O’Sullivan and Erin Tacopina. The team was thrilled that they had been a part of the exciting moment, and glad that they had won the game.

Kearney celebrated the win with a presentation of the game ball on home court on Thursday, February 3, before a game against The Mary Louis Academy. Retas is pictured with her parents and grandparents.
