Michael Noel Diaz

Michael Noel “Mickey” Diaz, a former Rockaway resident, died February 3.

Diaz was born in Brooklyn, New York. He was the owner of Sawmill and Guitar Village during the 1960’s in Rockaway and built restaurants and houses in Greenwich, Connecticut, North Shore of Long Island, Nautical Mile in Freeport, New York and in Brooklyn, New York. He also served in the US Navy on the USS Valley Forge from 1956 through 1960. In 2007 he moved to Slate Hill, New York.

Diaz was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald, Thomas and Jimmy; and sisters, Tootsie and Carmen.

He is survived by his daughter, Jenny Vielandi (James); lifelong partner, Anna Lawshe; brothers, John, Franklyn and Butch; and sister, Beverly.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home, Rockaway Beach. A funeral mass took place at Grace Methodist Church, Slate Hill, New York. Interment followed at Ridgebury Cemetery, Slate Hill, New York.
