Edward G. Hazel
Edward G. Hazel, a longtime Rockaway resident, died February 16.
Hazel was born in Brooklyn, New York and lived in Rockaway for 57 years. He worked for the New York City Department of Sanitation. Hazel also served in the US Navy Sea Bee during World War II. He was the past Commander of the American Legion #272 and past Commander of VFW Post 1948.
Hazel was preceded in death by his wife, Helen (nee Ferguson).
He is survived by his son, Walter Hazel; daughters, Susan Hazel and Cara Middleton; grandchildren, Suzanne Sullivan and Kathriya Kennedy; and great-grandchildren, Aidan, Ciaran, Ava and Tatum.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home, Rockaway Beach. Visitation will take place on Friday, February 18, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. A funeral mass will take place at St. Rose of Lima Church, Rockaway Beach on Saturday, February 19, at 8 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale, New York.
