Helped Me Stop Smoking

Dear Editor,

I am writing to express my grateful appreciation to a truly dedicated man, Mr. Adam Steiner, coordinator of the Smoke Free Project at the West End Temple. In September of 2010, I began attending the “Not Quite Ready to Quit” smoking cessation group with Adam. After many unsuccessful attempts, I was finally committed to stop smoking. I admit that I was a bit skeptical about this self-help program but I decided I would give it a try. Adam approached the topic of smoking in a very professional manner and was dedicated and sincerely interested in helping each individual. We had a class of seven people. Adam gently coached each participant in our small group to understand the nicotine addiction. He promised if we followed the program, we would be able to quit smoking. The six-week program was extremely informative and helpful in understanding our addiction.

I recently lost my brother (January 12) very suddenly to a lung disorder. He was a smoker. I am truly convinced that Adam’s gentle and per- suasive mentoring was the reason I quit smoking and I am extremely grateful to him. Today I, and two other people in our group are smoke free. I want to thank Adam Steiner for being there for us. Please continue your work as a counselor at the West End Temple as I am sure there are many more people who can use your help.

TERRY MCCARTHY
