The Inner Voice

Commentary by Marilyn Gelfand

We all have ideas of what reality is like and what is good or not good for us. We believe that our way is good and it works. We expect others to think the same way and don’t understand when those we love make very different decisions than we would have hoped for. We create our reality based on assumptions that each one of us makes formed by our experiences. Then we confuse this with what reality actually is.

Disappointment happens when we believe that this reality is the way it is supposed to be. However, others have their own versions of reality. We cannot assume that our way is best and everyone agrees with this. What is good to do is to break our own assumptions, and try to experience life as it actually is.

If we can trust in ourselves and in divine order, we can just let life unfold. We can have trust even if we cannot see what will happen later. We can expect that our instincts will guide us when an action must be taken. Our intellect will provide all necessary answers to questions of the world. With patience and trust, life is an ever-changing work of art. It is constantly being created and with openness, less disappointment, frustration and sadness occurs. It is good to see life as it is not what we wish it to be. Then we can plan and make wiser decisions.
