Dayton Towers Resident Publishes Poems

He’s a New York City Housing Authority maintenance man by day and a romantic poet by night. Dayton Towers resident Thomas McRae says he’s always loved poetry. It’s a means of expression for him.

His series of poetry books encompasses stories of personal struggle, relationships and spirituality. One of his books, “Poetry 4 The Soul,” is a collection of poems about relationships and love.

“Most of my poems are about past relationships and people I know,” McRae said. “It’s about my life and experiences and theirs as well.”

He cites Maya Angelou as one of his favorite authors and believes she could be the greatest of all time. Her work is what drives McRae’s creativity.

“The poems are a mixture of topics with each one telling a different story,” he said.

His next book of poems will be entirely based on spirituality, because McRae says God showed him the way and taught him to mature and grow.

But it’s really his parents McRae, 28, says that are the biggest influence in his life. It is his parents that constantly pushed him in the right direction and motivated him to express his feelings in the form of poetry.

“They always want me to be the best person I could be,” he said. “They are the greatest parents one could ever have. They have kept me focused and determined.”

McRae has been living in Rockaway since he was a kid and graduated from Beach Channel High School. His works can be found at Amazon.com and Barnesandnoble.com.
