Winter Arts Festival 2011 Comes to Waterside School

On Thursday, January 20, P.S. 317 hosted the second annual Winter Arts Festival. Families came in droves to celebrate the students’ creativity through writing, visual arts, dance and music. The artist gallery was filled with many different genres and styles of art such as quilting, self portraits, abstraction, collage and many more. Allison Belolan, Waterside’s art teacher, was very proud of all the artwork that the students created. She says, “Our art festivals give all of our students a chance to show off their creativity.” On stage, every student in the school performed for the Waterside families. Some of the performances included recorders, classical movement, songs, and dance. For the very first time, the Waterside Band was introduced and led by music teacher David Fisher. He says, “I’m so proud of our band students who worked so hard to make their first performance a complete success.” Principal Dana Gerendasi said, “The turnout is incredible. Over 400 family members are here to celebrate our children’s continued success and growth academically, creatively and socially. I am so incredibly proud of every one of my kids and I am so grateful to the Waterside families for making this a night that our kids will always remember!”
