With input from patients, St. John’s Episcopal Hospital honors one employee each month who has made a difference or whose performance has gone beyond the call of duty. Winners receive a Tiffany crystal star and a check for $100. Many employees are nominated by patients. St. John’s is proud to announce the fourth quarter winners of 2010:

October:
Ted Bayack

Bayack, IT Site Support Manager, has been employed at Episcopal Health Services since 2009. He also worked here in IT from 1996 through 2003. Patti Gillespie, Administrative Director of Radiology and his supervisor; and Mike Piro, Chief Information Officer, nominated Bayack. Gillespie notes that Bayack has expedited work assignments, supplied needed support and handled user and downtime issues with ease, tact and approachable grace. He is a true team player, a pleasure to work with and an “unsung hero,” correcting things in a flash and working side by side with co-workers. Piro notes that Bayack is unrelenting in getting problems resolved, equipment installed and coordinating any IT project and has exceeded expectations in assisting just about everyone with the recent implementation of the new information systems programs. Bayack displays the core values of Responsibility, Teamwork and Professionalism.

Davis, described as “our friendly, smiling Porter/Mover in Housekeeping,” has been employed at St. John’s since 2002. He was nominated by a coworker who was impressed with the way Davis went out of his way to assist her in relocating furniture and other heavy items to the Hospital, over many days and in heavy rains and bad weather. Most of the items being moved were very heavy, yet Davis did whatever was necessary. Asta Moorhead, Director of Housekeeping and Davis’ supervisor, notes that he is a team player, is diligent in performing and completing his duties, and is always willing to help out in any situation when called upon. Davis exemplifies the Hospital’s core values of Responsibility, Teamwork and Professionalism.

December:
Natalie Brown, RN

Brown, a Registered Nurse in the Pulmonary Care Unit on Tower 8, has been employed at St. John’s since 1994. A patient, who commended the RN’s devotion, compassion and pleasant personality, nominated Brown and noted that she always did more than what was expected. Lin Zabala, Nurse Manager of Pulmonary Care Unit, states that Brown demonstrates dedication and enthusiasm in the performance of her duties, and consistently exhibits her commitment to all her patients, using her creativity to make even the most challenging patient feel like a Very Important Person. She takes charge without being asked and extends herself for a good cause. Brown is an inspiration to her peers and personifies all five of the Hospital’s core values: Responsibility, Compassion, Respect, Teamwork and Professionalism. She was also selected as the 2010 Nurse Preceptor of the Year for St. John’s.
