Rockaway Model Needs Your Vote
Rockaway Beach native Andrew Appel has been selected as a finalist in the Perry Ellis Model Most Wanted Contest which will grant the winner a spot on the runway during the 2011 Perry Ellis Fall Fashion Show on February 11 at Lincoln Center.
Appel, 19, is up against eight other contestants who will be voted for via Twitter or Facebook, now through February 7. The Most Wanted Model contest voting began on January 26 at Facebook.com/ PerryEllis where visitors can vote for their model of choice.
The three top models based on voting will be announced on February 8. The contest winner will be revealed live before the fashion show on February 11 by Perry Ellis Creative Director John Crocco via webcast.
Appel says modeling is something he kind of stumbled into after he was approached by an agency during his senior year at Bishop Ford High School in Brooklyn.
“I was scouted and decided to run with it and it turned out to be a good choice,” he said. “I have been doing this since my senior year in high school but now that I’m in college and my schedule is more flexible. I have been getting more work.”
To win the Perry Ellis contest, Appel says, would gain him much more exposure which could jumpstart his career into a new direction.
“I think I have a pretty good shot,” Appel said about his chances. “A coveted spot in the Perry Ellis Fall Fashion Show could lead to much more work.”
However, if he fails to win Appel says he won’t stop.
“If I win then, great, and I hope it brings more things my way,” he said. “But if I don’t win, I won’t let it get me down.”
