Long Island Lizards Announce 2011 MLL Schedule
The Long Island Lizards released their 2011 schedule on Tuesday, as they enter their 11th year in the Major League Lacrosse.
The season starts off for the first of two trips to Boston, as they face the Cannons on Saturday, May 14. The Lizards have not won in Boston since May 16, 2009, on a day in which they scored 3 consecutive goals to overcome an 8-6 deficit.
The Lizards, having made the Championship last season, have been given a difficult schedule, facing the top two teams of the 2010 regular season, Boston and Denver, 3 times each.
The first game against Denver will take place on June 3rd, as Coach Mule gets set for his first match up against newly promoted Coach Tom Slate. The Lizards had not won a contest against the Outlaws prior to last year’s 16-12 shocker in the semifinals. The first game against Denver will also mark the first time both teams will be at full strength, with the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship taking place on May 30th. Long Island history will be made on Friday, July 1st, as they travel to Hamilton for the first time. The Lizards handed John Grant, Jr. and the Nationals a loss Week 12 in what now happens to be the final MLL game played in Toronto.
The Lizards will make their first trip to Rochester since 2008 on May 21. The last time the Lizards played Rochester was on August 1, 2008 in which the Rattlers won 17-13.
The match up that everyone is anticipating, however, is during Week 5, in which the Lizards host the Bayhawks in a Championship Weekend Final rematch in Chesapeake on Saturday, July 23. All games this season will be broadcasted on ESPN3.
