Waterfowl At The West Pond

Learn how to identify waterfowl and residential birds around the West Pond. Ruddy ducks, buffleheads and mergansers are just a few of the popular birds seen in the Jamaica Bay area. Join a park ranger on Saturday, January 29 at 10:30 a.m. in the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge for an indoor and outdoor presentation about winter waterfowl.

“For the new and accomplished birder alike, they are a much needed bright spot in the middle of winter. Waterfowl are icons of survival,” explains Park Ranger Colleen Sorbera. “We are fortunate to live in an area where they can be seen each year – not everyone in the country is so lucky.”
