Mayor Michael Bloomberg has confirmed his attendance for a town hall meeting at the Bayswater Jewish Center on Monday, January 24 at 7 p.m., hosted by the Bayswater Neighborhood Block Watch Association and the Bayswater Civic Association.

Bloomberg will attend the meeting along with 20 of his commissioners, according to information provided by the Bayswater Block Watch Association. The town hall meeting will be in question and answer format and could lead to an open forum about issues involving the entire peninsula.

The peninsula’s two council members, Eric Ulrich and James Sanders Jr., formed the Rockaway Task Force last year to attempt to address problems facing the peninsula. The Task Force has met with some of Bloomberg’s top advisors. Organizers hope the meeting will help push some of the same issues that have arisen during those Task Force meetings such as transportation, economic development and gang violence.

The Bayswater Jewish Center is located at 2235 Healy Avenue. This is the first time a mayor has held a town hall meeting in Rockaway since former mayor David Dinkins visited the peninsula in the early 1990s. Bloomberg makes regular appearances in Rockaway for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and for the Flight 587 Memorial ceremony, but never for a town hall meeting.
