Shouldn’t Throw Stones

Dear Editor,

As a licensed real estate broker on the Rockaway peninsula for more than 50 years without a single complaint from the New York State Division of Licensing Services I think I am qualified to respond to Vincent Castellano’s letter in reference to my hotel.

I guess people like Vincent never took to heart the old saying, “If you live in a glass cage you shouldn’t throw stones.” Vincent, will you tell the people of Rockaway Beach how many Section 8 tenants you have taken from other parts of the city and provided them with housing on the Rockaway peninsula.

If you asked me that question my answer would be ZERO. In 1992 didn’t you complain that 25 percent of the population of Rockaway Beach is below the poverty level? Do you think your Section 8 tenants raised or lowered that percentage? Didn’t you complain the same year that 6 percent of the peninsula’s population is institutionalized? Wouldn’t your actions be a case of preaching one thing and doing the opposite? Anyway you do make a good Board 14 member.
