St. Rose Of Lima Parish Kicks Off Year 125

Standing Room Only. Standing Room Only. Sunday, January 10 St. Rose of Lima, in Rockaway Beach had standing room only as the parish kicks off its 125th Anniversary Year. The Theme is: “We Are One People- United in Christ.“ The Mass was in English, with readings and intentions in Spanish, English and Polish.

Concelebrating the Mass with Rev. Msgr. James F. Spengler was Rev. Slawomir Sobiech; assisting the priests were Deacon Patrick J. Logue and Deacon Harold L. Sampson. The organist Grace Matubis and her choir were joined by a guitarist, pianist and a drummer on the conga drum. They all got a nice round of applause.

After Mass there was a Breakfast at the School; coffee, tea, bagels, cookies and pastries were served. The Polish children entertained the guests with Polish folklore songs and dances. The Spanish teenage parishioners did a skit about drinking, drugs and religion. They invited all teenagers to their meeting.
