Sorrentino Recreation Center hosted its 20th Annual Double Dutch Holiday Festival on Tuesday, December 28, 2010.

The tournament presented a demonstration of its standard compulsory speed competition(s) with freestyle (tricks). The age/grades were from third through college divisions. Sorrentino’s Stan’s Jr. Pepper Steppers took top honors in this winterfest event.

Participants were from Albany, New York; the Bronx; Brooklyn; Queens; Nassau County; Suffolk County; and Far Rockaway. This special event went on despite the snow and the blizzard conditions. The parents, relatives and friends in attendance enjoyed and were amazed at how well the teams performed. Awards (trophies and medals) were given to all in attendance.

The tournament showed the importance of recreation (Double Dutch) and the role that the City of New York Department of Parks and Recreation plays in the lives of our youth.

Special thanks go to the officials of the American Double Dutch League (NY Affiliate), coaches, team members, family and friends, the Far Rockaway community, NYPD’s Police Officer Brown from the Community Affairs Bureau-Youth Services Section and the staff of Sorrentino Recreation Center.
