St. Rose of Lima Basketball Has Winning Start

The St. Rose of Lima sixth grade boys basketball team went into the Christmas break with a 5-2 record.

The first game of the year for St. Rose of Lima was a 37-20 win over Resurrection. The scoring was led by Isiah Brown with 16 points. Tom Collins had 8 points, Matt Schoenfeld chipped in with 7 points, CJ Gal-lagher had 4 points and Marcello Acosta with 2 points.

The first road game had St. Rose beating a physical O.L. of Grace, 34- 29 in Brooklyn. The scoring was led by Isiah Brown with 16 points, Matt Schoenfeld had 8 points. The real stars of that game were Kieran Mills and Keith Servillo, who each scored 4 points.

Game 3 was the team’s first loss of the season to a tough St. Patrick’s team 43-31. Scoring was once again led by Brown with 15 points, Schoenfeld and Gallagher each had 6 points and Collins had 4 points.

Game 4 was a 34-14 victory for St. Rose over Good Sheppard. This game was a great team effort. Sebastian Sheppard, Robert McGinn, and Acosta had 4 points each. Servillo had 5 points.

Christian Pires and Kieran Mills each played great defense.

Game 5 was a hard fought victory over St. Francis de Sales 31-29. Tenacious defense forced SFDS into many turnovers. The offense was led by Brown with 23 points and McGinn with 4 points.

The team’s final game before Christ-mas break was another great team effort over Blessed Trinity 34- 21. A super shooting effort was done Matt Schoenfeld, who led the team with four 3-pointers and 16 points. Brown had 15 points and had awesome control of the offense. The great defense was led by Collins, Pires, Mills and McGinn. Sheppard had good foul shooting.
