Tobya Furman Turns 100
Furman was born in Zhitomir, Russia on December 14 1910. She worked at various occupations while living in Russia. Especially noteworthy was her job in wardrobe at The Kids Theater in Moscow where she lived in the 1960’s and 1970’s. She became a single mother raising her family when her husband was killed in World War II.
She was the first member of her family to come to the United States establishing residency here in 1977 and eventually living at Gloria’s Manor. Furman has been a resident at West Lawrence Care Center since June 21st 2007 and keeps busy by attending various activities.
Helping to celebrate Tobya Furman’s 100th birthday were, left to right Assemblywoman Audrey Pheffer, presenting a certificate for this milestone to Tobya and her grandson Yan, Nancy Fitzgerald, Director of Nursing, Jack Cytryn, Administrator, Pattie Cunningham, Director of Admissions and not pictured, 100 of her peers, social service and of course the recreation department. A great time was had by all with entertainment by Them 2.
