December At Rockaway Park High School
Rockaway Park High School, with advisor Mr. Cestaro, held their first annual Holiday Leadership Breakfast on Thursday, December 23. Students who were invited have consistently demonstrated leadership qualities and help to make the school a better place. Students nominated include Tiara White, Tejwaitte Ramrup, Alison Humala, Diequan Underwood, Khalil Mitchell, Saida Cherif, Christian Villanueva, Shad Slocombe, Nadia Brumell, Charnaya Knight, Carnell Steward, Christopher Turner, Joseph Kindred, Shartiqua Davis and Timothy Contreras.
A spokesperson says that RPHS is also excited to announce the names of students with 100 percent attendance throughout the first marking period. The school congratulates Christian Caban, Saida Cherif, John Coffey, Alison Humala, Mohammed Musleh, Kimberley Ortega, Bernarda Reyes Rosario, Carnell Steward, Darius Taylor, Mira Texidor, Christian Villanueva, Ruth Vincent and Weldon Waiters.
The school’s first marking period also brought with it some truly outstanding academic achievements, adds the spokesperson. The Principal’s List, which designates an average of 95% and above, holds one exceptional student this term, Saida Cherif. The Honor Roll students, who hold an overall average of 90% or higher, are Alison Humala, Michael Ojeranti, Bernarda Reyes Rosario, and Abdoulaye Sidibe. Merit Roll Students, who have earned an overall average of 85% or higher, are Gerson Amaya, Nadia Brumell, Timothy Contreras, Alexander Feree, Joseph Kindred, Troy Lyne, Brianna Marseille, Kimbery Ortega, Tejwattie Ramrup, Chris Reed, Jameek Rivers, Kevin Santiago, Shad Slocombe, Darius Taylor, Mira Texidor and Umani Ulmer.
“We are confident that as the year continues,” said the spokesperson, “these students will continue to work to keep up the excellent academics and that they will be joined by many others.”
RPHS also announced their Students of the Month for November: in English, Shad Slocombe; Social Studies, Abdoulye Sidibe; Career, Saida Cherif; Physical Education, Darius Charles; Math, Mira Texidor; and Science, Michael Ojeranti. October’s Students of the Month were Rey Rufo Bueno, Christian Caban, Saida Cherif, Jameek Rivers and Allison Humala.
RPHS and Ms. Allocco held their first Student Council elections on November 22. The very first Student Council president is Tejwaitte Ramrup; vice president, Raquan Jean; treasurer, Timothy Contreras; secretary, Katrina Gummerman; and activities director, Joseph Kindred.
In conclusion the spokesperson said, “These students have impressed us all with their campaigns and speeches. We know they will keep up the good work all year and set a standard of excellence for future RPHS students.
