of the Rockaways A brief description of the Rockaways in 1936
From The Rockaway Museum Commentary by Emil Lucev, Curator Dedicated To The Memory Of Leon S. Locke

Today in Historical Views we have a brief description of the Rockaways published for the general public in 1936.

The report came with two photos, one of the bungalows looking from Seaside towards Far Rockaway, and the other showing the bathing at the literally unstable beach at Far Rockaway. Stone groins or jettys were installed by the Roche’s Beach Company, and the bathers had to stay within the safety lines strung from piling, both in and off shore.

The Stone Hook Jetty had been installed at Long Beach Bar’s tip just three years previous, and was causing beach erosion problems for Far Rockaway and Edgemere.

The same situation still exists in the areas mentioned. No matter how things change, they remain the same! Aey! Keep in mind! This is 1936!
