Astounding To See Parents Allowing BCHS To Close

Dear Editor,

I am astounded to hear about the closure of Beach Channel High School, but it’s more astounding to see the parents standing by and letting it happen.

They should be screaming from the rooftops, and higher if possible. Let’s get to the root of all this. When Rudolph Giuliani was running for mayor who did he turn to, to catapult him over the top? The Rev. Floyd Flake, of course. And when Emperor Michael Bloomberg threw his crown in the ring for mayor who did he turn to? The Rev. Floyd Flake to the rescue again. Do you think all this might have something to do with charter schools? Now it’s common knowledge that the Rev. Floyd Flake is over his ears in promoting charter schools and so are his two Mules, Congressman Gregory Meeks and state Senator Malcolm Smith, where both of them work out of the Flake Stables. Giuliani and the Emperor sold their souls to this trio who are now under federal investigation going back 30 years on land deals, according to an article published in the New York Daily News on March 21, 2010. If I were Giuliani or the Emperor I might be a little concerned. It’s just a tad too close for comfort.

I am questioning why a private developer like Floyd Flake, who has ties to the Benjamin Companies, now building Arverne By the Sea, gets so many grants. One thing you shouldn’t do is ask the Rubber Stamp Gang BD 14. I never saw a single member of the Rubber Stamp Gang attend any of the meetings at Baruch College where Rev. Flake controlled what was going to happen in Arverne. I was the only person from Rockaway; and I would not have been there if I didn’t get “heads up” from a concerned citizen who believed that there was a lot of back room wheeling and dealing going on.

There’s an old saying in Ireland that would apply to the Rubber Stamp Gang. “It’s bad enough to be a fool and know it, but it’s worse to be a fool and not know it.” I hope that the good people of Rockaway realize that the closing of Beach Channel High School is purely political and has everything to do with what is good for the powerful and not for what is good for the students. You can stop the closing, but you must be willing to sacrifice. Demonstrate, Demonstrate, Demonstrate.

I am fearful of one thing. If and when the feds come to drive out Flake and his Mules, District Leader Lew Simon with his bullhorn and the Rubber Stamp Gang will march in front of them and call it a parade.

JOHN BAXTER
