Monday Elections/Party; ‘Gifted’ Final Weekend
by Susan Hartenstein

See gray box for time and location. Following the election will be the holiday party. You must be a paid member to vote. You may pay at the meeting, before elections. You can vote for up to five candidates for the board member position. By now you should have received your “Get to Know Your Candidates” email. Read it. Written by the candidates, each one discusses her/his qualifications, experience and vision for the future of RAA. If you care about RAA, read the document to decide who you want to lead RAA into that future.

The holiday party will feature artwork, live musical entertainment, food, desserts, liquid refreshments (this is a potluck party so any addition you could bring would be welcomed), the company of fellow artists and the (wait for the applause) grab bag. Bring something you have that has given you pleasure (or not) but are ready to pass on for the enjoyment of someone else. Wrap it, ribbon it and place it on the official “RAA Grab Bag Table.” Once you have, you will be free to choose a treasure brought by a fellow ‘bagger.’ Remember – baggers CAN be choosers.

Saturday, December 11 at 4 p.m. in sTudio 7, the singing group Seaside performs. Composed of former members of the original Coasters, Flamingos, Revlons and Drifters, the group has thrilled audiences throughout Rockaway and the metropolitan area. Performing rock and roll, R&B, pop, jazz and more, Seaside is backed by multi-talented musicians. All donated proceeds go to benefit RAA.

A full afternoon of entertainment is scheduled for Sunday, December 12 in sTudio 7, RoCA. Your final opportunity to see “Gifted,” RAA’s holiday exhibit, gallery hours are 12-4 p.m. At 1:30 p.m. Dan Guarino, musician, singer and songwriter, will perform. From 2- 4 p.m. the RAA Writers Group will present original works. The program includes several poems, an essay, short stories, a short play and music from Jackie Stellato.

Saturday, December 18, at 6:30 p.m., sTudio 7 hosts the return of the exciting avant garde theater group Dzieci. More in next week’s column.

This exhibition is open to all media, including, but not limited to, watercolor, drawing, photography, sculpture, literature, painting, video, poetry, performance, film and more. Send us your best. Dates: January 15-February 6. Deadline: December 10, 2010.

“The Life of Still Objects”: You are invited to capture the motion and emotion in the world of objects that may be still but never static. Media may include, but are not limited to, painting, drawing, mixed media, cartoon, kinetic art, photography, literature, video and more. Use your imagination to bring new interpretations of still life through inventive angles, contexts, subjects and juxtapositions of objects. Dates: February 19-March 27. Deadline: January 21, 2011.
