News Events/Travel Editor/Host • WNYX - TV Morning News • 12:00 noon on UHF Chs. 35 & 26 Monday - Friday

The first annual supply drive of Operation Ho! Ho! Ho! on Sunday, December 5 at the Breezy Point Fire House was a big success. Many co-op members responded with bags of canned and dry food products, energy bars, underwear, socks and toiletries and other needs to bring cheer, happiness and love to the co-op troops who cannot make it home for Christmas. Let them not be forgotten this holiday season and let us not forget those who have sacrificed to make a better world. We thank them and we thank those who formed this “Operation”.” You can visit www.give2thetroops.org or call Timmy O’Brien 347-682-1365 or Bernadette Heeran 917-403-1413 if you would like to donate.

Ciara Grace Donley, daughter of Chris and George Donley was recently married to Bill Dooley who is with the 67th Precinct. The reception was held at the Silver Gull. Bill Dooley’s father, John Dooley, (sometimes called ”Bud” for all the Budweiser Beer he delivered to the troops during his stint in the Merchant Marines) was also at the Bar in Kennedy’s. As a former Merchant Marine John traveled all over the Pacific and Asian countries while he was married to his childhood sweetheart. They were married for 38 years and raised three sons before God took her home in 2006. John is employed by Kings County Hospital and continues his good works. He has great admiration for his dear friend, Joe Kilbride and still misses him along with others. He has the picture of his tombstone on the mantle above his fireplace at home. Tom Cody, my first and all-time favorite Kennedy’s bartender, agreed with John Dooley, that Joe Kilbride is sorely missed and is well loved to this day.

Donald Ritter, owner of Breezy Point Surf Shop, which is open every day during the holidays, reported his niece, Robin Timmons, daughter of his sister Claire, will be married at St. Thomas on December 11.

A memorable evening for the Sons and Daughters of America was held at the Colony Theater. The night after Thanksgiving party for the Project Little Soldier was a blast. This was a fundraiser to make Christmas special for every child of a deployed soldier from the tri-state area to provide a child with two gift wishes to soften the pain of the missing parent during the holiday. The Breezy Grass, Fonce and Ginger and Reda Shay bands played.Save your pennies, but it will take more than pennies. I should say. “Save your Dollars” and give yourself a treat of a lifetime at the brand new Setai Hotel that just opened up at 400 Fifth Avenue, NYC. It is luxuriously exquisite. Every room is elegantly decorated and equipped. The service is ultimate pampering, and the food is to die for. It is a must see, spanking new and modern in every respect.

If you have problem skin or want to keep your skin healthy there is a new book by Dr. Paul Friedman, MD “Beautiful Skin Revealed.” with real patients and their stories. What bothers you in and out of your skin and what you can do to fix it.

Over at the Explorer’s Club, 46 East 70 Street, NYC I ran into Alda Abbracciamento from Breezy Point. Her mother Frances, 95, is an old friend of mine. The whole family are members of the Explorer’s Club but there was such a crowd I did not get a chance to chat with her. Peru was the host that night and the agents and press learned about the country. Taco Airlines has direct flights from Miami departs MIA 3:05 p.m., arrives Lima 9:00 p.m. July 11 starts the 100 Anniversary of the discovery of Machu Picchu which will be a huge event to last for weeks. Machu Picchu is northwest of Cuzco and it is one of the most beautiful archeological sites on the planet. Lan Airlines has many flights from USA to many parts of Peru. The beautiful brand new New York Central Restaurant opened at Grand Hyatt Hotel on the upper level above the lobby, all glass enclosed with a view of 42nd Street. Chef Ragano is originally from Queens, has worked at the most famous restaurants in Chicago for a few years, is and now returning home. He is a graduate of the Culinary Institute. I attended the opening and was so impressed with the food my friends and I ended up enjoying Thanksgiving dinner there. We were very thankful we did.
