McCool Signs Letter Of Intent To Lafayette College

Xavier third baseman James McCool. Xavier third baseman James McCool. Xavier senior James McCool recently signed a National Letter Of Intent to play baseball at Lafayette College in the fall of 2011.

The Rockaway resident was a major contributor to Xavier’s run to the CHSAA city championship game last June. The third baseman was a solid hitter in the middle of the lineup and also pitched well throughout the playoffs.

McCool also plays travel ball with the Richmond County Baseball Club.

“It was a great feeling, just a sense of everything I’ve worked for since I started playing baseball, all the ground balls, being in the batting cages, it all paid off in the end,” McCool told Dylan Butler of the New York Post.

McCool pitched five innings and allowed a run in a 2-1 Xavier victory over Fordham Prep in the CHSAA playoffs. He was an integral part for a Xavier team who made a Cinderella run as the eighth and final seed to the championship game before losing 3-1 to St. Joseph by the Sea.

Lafayette College, which is located in Easton, Pennsylvania, currently participates in the Patriot League along such teams as Army, Lehigh, Bucknell, Holy Cross and Navy.
