The holiday was made brighter for local residents on Thanksgiving eve as the Church of the Nazarene, in Far Rockaway, and its pastor Reverend Leslie Mullins hosted a turkey meal for the hungry and a coat drive to kick off the holiday season. The previous day free turkeys were distributed at the church. Also taking part in the two day Thanksgiving event were members of Operation Give Back, the New Progressive Democratic Club, and Councilman James Sanders Jr.

The New Progressive Democratic Club sponsored a coat drive at the Church to distribute old and used coats to those lacking a warm jacket for the upcoming winter season.
Locals wait for their opportunity to enter the church.
