BCAC Pee Wees Headed To The Superbowl

The temperature may have dropped from the previous week but the spirit of the BCAC Pee Wee Shamrocks did not. The boys were pumped and ready to take on the West Hempstead Broncos in the second round of the playoffs.

In his QB debut, Ryan Hanning looked great. It looked as if he had done it for years. Liam Doda, who once again had a stellar game at center, made the perfect partner for Hanning. The two worked as well together as peanut butter and jelly. If not for Mike Butkiewicz, Giancarlo Conti and Nicco Finizio providing blocking coverage on the line, Nick Rogers, Nicky Meehan and Matty McDonagh would not have been able to carry the ball, resulting in several first downs. Down by seven at the end of the first quarter, Hanning put the ball in the hands of the mighty McDonagh to put the Shamrocks within one.

The defense played an outstanding game. Aaron Silva and Robert Clark both had breakout days. The “Dynamic Duo” was in the backfield the entire game, disrupting the Bronco’s offense and limiting them to a single touchdown. Jack Tansey, Damian Stathis and Vincent Nizzo added to the mayhem and were all over the place making crucial tackles throughout the game.

In the third quarter, the Shamrock increased their lead to 12-7 when Coach Pete called for the QB sweep in which Hanning scored easily thanks to a “pancake” block by Ryan Ehret.

The Broncos came out fired up looking for their game winning drive. They moved the ball slow and steady all the way to the Shamrock’s 25. Luckily, the defense kept up their wall of penetration. On a crucial fourth down and four, the Shamrock’s played great team defense, gang tackling and sacking the quarterback. The Shamrocks prevented another score and secured the win for the Pee Wees.

Thanks go to the hard work and effort of Michael

Boyle, Juan Cuglietta Kevin Lavoun, Anthony Fiorey, and Joe Kazmierczuk. These boys work extremely hard at practice and cheered their teammates on from the sidelines during the game. It’s the little things like this that have enabled the Shamrocks to come this far. The Pee Wees will be on the road this Sunday playing in the Superbowl, so take a break from your turkey leftovers and come on out and root for the team who has been referred to as the “Post Season Boys.”
