‘Little North Pole’ Lights Up On December 4
The spirit of Christmas will arrive in the Rockaways at 6 p.m. on Saturday night, December 4, when the annual lighting of the Little North Pole at the Muré home at Beach 144 Street and Neponsit Avenue kicks off the season.
Hosting the festivities once again this year will be Goumba Johnny of WKTU 103.5 and Tony Sirica, of the “Sopranos,” joined by attorney Joe Muré in lighting the display.
The event draws thousands of visitors each year and is considered one of the premier holiday displays in the tristate area.
As in years past, there will be free food and holiday cheer, shows and presentations by local entertainers such as the Rockaway Theatre Company and local dance schools.
The annual event is a fundraiser for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and The Children’s Diabetes Center at Peninsula Hospital.
The Little North Pole raised $195,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the Peninsula Hospital Center Juvenile Diabetes Unit and other hospital charities last year.
