Senior Shamrocks Hold Off Farmingdale To Win NSFL Playoff Game
Last Sunday afternoon was a beautiful day for football as the Broad Channel Athletic Club Senior Shamrocks hosted the Farmingdale Titans in a quarter final NSFL playoff game at Memorial Field.
The Shamrocks would score first but it would not be until the second quarter. Paul Yodice, running behind the offensive line of Brandon Dell, Bryon Collado, Steve Ambrosino, Kevin Dougherty and Elijah Dorta, ran in two touchdowns from eight and three yards.
Lineman Steve Ambrosino was pressed into service as a runningback, punching the ball in after the second touchdown for a 13-0 halftime lead. Led by Tom Kelly, Andrew Conklin and Chris Manfre, the defense of Devon Rodriguez, Vincent Finizio, Tim Panetta, Julian Verni, Zach Warner, Marco Minichino, James Marrota, James Lee and Jeremiah Jones held Farmingdale scoreless for the first half.
Farmingdale put six points on the board to start the third quarter. Linebacker Chris Manfre broke through the line and blocked the two-point kick attempt by the Titans. The Shamrocks answered back quickly with a touchdown as quarterback Paul Yodice hit Chris Manfre on a 45-yard touchdown pass. Missing the extra point attempt, the Shamrocks led 19-6.
The Titans offense kicked into gear, putting 12 points on the board between the third and fourth quarter. Paul Yodice stopped the extra point attempt after the second Titan touchdown.
In the fourth quarter the Titans put up their third touchdown. Looking to tie the score the Titans attempted to run the ball in for the extra point. Shamrock middle linebacker Tom Kelly make a huge play to stop the attempt before the goal line to keep the Shamrocks up 19-18.
Farmingdale got one more opportunity to score as time was winding down. With a fourth down and ten yards to go, Shamrock defensive lineman Jeremiah Jones sacked the Farmingdale quarterback to end the threat. From here the Shamrocks were able to take a knee to the 19-18 victory.
On Sunday, November 21 at 1 p.m., the BCAC Senior Shamrocks will be home at Memorial Field, in the semifinal game against the Plainedge Bobcats.
