15th Annual Surf Fishing Tournament

By Kevin Brown (Ret.121)

With a Nor’easter approaching, the anglers of the 15th Annual Surfishing Tournament were treated to the clam before the storm on a sunny day with temperatures hovering in the 70s. An extension off the 5 p.m. cutoff was requested and granted.

Walter Rogers was overheard saying the fish were so thick you can walk on them. I think that’s what he was going to tell his wife, Reenie. Tournament organizers send a big thanks out to their sponsors: Tom and George of Curran’s on Beach 129 Street for their high quality meats and to Tommy Healy of Healy’s Pub on Beach 108 Street for supplying the spirits and hosting the post tournament party.

They send special thanks once again to Judge George Murphy for taking the long ride in from Wantagh to preside over the tourney.

On a sad note, a spokesperson said, it was later learned that friend and chef, hero Vietnam War veteran Bobby Regan, was taken from this earth and we wish him eternal peace on his journey. The members of the tournament would like to wish their deepest condolences to his family.

Water temps are now dropping, so start filling up those freezers with your catch. Until next year, good luck.
