Madeline Washington, 98, a longtime Rockaway resident, died October 25.
Washington was born on January 27, 1912 in Nelsonia, Virginia. She was the chairperson of the Tanner Turner Memorial Committee and also worked as the head cook for the owners of the Dime Savings Bank.
She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Lazier of Irvington, New Jersey; son, Bruch H. Washington (Jo Ann) of Glen Burine, Maryland; grandchildren, Rashida, Rahjin, Marcus, and Tiffany; great-granddaughter, Mckayla; godchildren, Janice Mosley and Darien Gillard; sisters, Harriet Harmon of Nelsonia, Virginia, Nancy Brown of Salisbury, Maryland and Mary Williamson of Brooklyn, New York; and a host of nieces and nephews, great-grandnieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney Friendship Chapel, Inwood, New York. Disposition took place at Hall Cemetery, Whitesville, Virginia.
