Ethel Louise Silberger nee Keep
Ethel Louise Silberger, 86, a former Rockaway resident, died October 23.
Silberger was born on January 20, 1924 in Brooklyn, New York. She moved to Rockaway Beach at the age of six and recently moved to Wantagh, New York in 2007. She was an active member of the First Congregational Church, Rockaway Beach for 74 years. She taught Sunday school, was the Church Clerk and lay reader, Deaconess, belonged to the Women in Action, and was a lifelong member of the Ladies Aid Society.
Silberger was preceded in death by her parents, Anna and John Keep; siblings, John (Bud), Ruth, Rosetta, twin brother, George Merritt and James; husband, Harold; and daughter, Martha Bergstrom Yules.
She is survived by her children, Frantz (Mary) of Muscatine, Iowa, James (Margaret) of Wantagh, New York and Andrew (Lisa) of McDonough, Georgia; 11 grandchildren, 25 greatgrandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Keep and Evelyn Keep; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A Memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 5 at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, Rockaway Beach. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the First Congregational Church, 320 Beach 94 Street, Rockaway Beach, New York 11693.
