The New York Aviators celebrated their first wins of the Federal Hockey League season at the Aviator Complex this past weekend. At the home opener on Friday night, the Aviators defeated the Broome County Barons 5-2.

Matthew Puntueri scored on a power play in the second period to tie the game at 1. David Inman had a power play goal and Casey Mignone added another for a 3-1 Aviators lead.

The Barons had cut the lead to 3-2 late in the second period, but Andrew Scampoli and David Inman each tallied power play goals in the third to give New York the win.

The Aviators needed a third period comeback on Saturday night to upend the Barons 3-2. John Goffredo scored in the first period for a 1-0 Aviators lead. Kyle Frieday and Aaron Boyer scored in the second period to give Broome County a 2-1 lead.

Goffredo continued his strong showing with a goal only 1:18 into the third period to knot the game at 2. KC Timmons had the winner with less than 8 minutes remaining for a 3-2 advantage. New York improved their record to 4-5 and climbed to third place in the sixteam Federal Hockey League. The Aviators next home game is tonight against Brooke County at the Aviator Complex.
