Celebration And Remembrance At Arverne Cancer Dinner

Approximately 170 people joined in as life was celebrated and those who have been lost to cancer were remembered during the Arverne Cancer Support Group’s annual Celebration of Life dinner held earlier this month at the Imperial Room at the VFW in Inwood.

Arverne Cancer Support Group’s Annette Ervin presents Dr. Jeremiah Gaffney Jr. with a plaque as the evening’s guest of honor. As he ended his acceptance speech, Gaffney donated $1,000 to the group. Members of the Arverne Cancer Support Group and of area churches who have been lost to cancer were remembered with single roses that became a remembrance bouquet. “About once a week we hear of someone who has passed from cancer,” said a member of the support group at the November 1 dinner.
