BCAC Midget Shamrocks Start Playoff Drive On Road At Lindenhurst

The BCAC Midget Shamrocks finished up the regular season last Sunday in Bayville against the Falcons. The young warriors showed up fresh, rested and ready to play thanks to gaining an hour of sleep the night before due to daylight savings.

The Shamrocks struck first as Timmy McCabe broke loose for a 41-yard touchdown. Coach Gene and Mickey McMahon’s sideline happy dance was quickly interrupted as the touchdown was brought back on a controversial holding call.

The Falcons would get in the end zone twice, putting the Shamrocks in a 13-0 hole. Just as things looked bleak, Ian Byrne did his best Darrelle Revis impersonation by ripping the ball out of the receiver’s hand and running back a 56-yard interception to the Shamrock’s 28-yard line. Byrne would finish it off two plays later by scoring on a 28-yard dash. At the half the Shamrocks were down 13-7 and ready to take charge in the second half.

The Green Machine got the ball first in the second half and was able to continue to move the ball downfield; thanks mainly to the offensive line led by Matt McCabe, Johnny Weiss, Joey Iannello, Sebastian Frieberg, Thomas Houck and Jack Collins.

The big stars on defense were Luke Jackowski, Andrew Visconti, Kevin Koestner, Dillon Ostrander, Peter Meehan, Michael O’Connell, James Tuehy and Michael Henglein. Danny “Wild Man” Clark came up with a huge fumble and Bryan Bostwick did a circus leap to come up with an interception late in the game. Bostwick also scored a pair of two point conversions on the day.

Late in the game Timmy McCabe scored on a 56- yard run after a handoff from Jack Allen. McCabe finished the day with 117 yards on the ground. The Shamrocks came up short in the end losing 27-14.

This week’s Shamrock’s Fan of the Week is Jack “The Prez” Allen. Allen showed up to Bayville early to have a catch with all the Shamrocks, he braved the cold on the side lines by doing the chains and he was the first one screaming after every huge play. What really helped Jack win this week is the fact that he is the father of super fan Casey “I’m not Sean” Allen.

The Shamrocks start their Super Bowl run this Sunday with a playoff game in Lindenhurst at 12 p.m. All past Fans of the Week are expected to be there, and, yes, now that it is the post season, there can be a repeat winner of Fan of the Week.
