Something Has To Be Done
Something really HAS to be done about the Q35 bus. We can talk all we want about express buses and private ferries (and progress IS being made on those), but for the time being and until those services are started, the Q35 bus is all we have. And the level of “service” on the Q35 is unacceptable.
The buses are overcrowded, requiring Rockaway residents to stand, packed in like sardines, every morning and evening. Buses pass the Beach 169th stop without even opening their doors, simply because they cannot take on any more passengers.
The solution to this problem is not rocket science. We need more Q35 buses. If there is no money in the budget, then the MTA should re-route some of the Q22 buses that run empty or nearly empty up and down the Peninsula. For every jam-packed Q35 that passes by the Beach 169th Street stop, there are two or three Q22 buses carrying very few passengers. Anyone who uses the Beach 169th Street stop to get off the Peninsula for work or school knows this to be true.
Why should the hard-working taxpayers of Rockaway be forced to endure this? Why should we be forced into our cars, paying the rising costs of tolls and gasoline, driving to work or school instead of being able to take public transportation like the rest of New York City? We can’t even get standing room on the bus! That’s outrageous.
Nothing will be done if we don’t speak up. Rockaway Residents: Please write to MTA New York City Transit President Thomas F. Prendergast, 2 Broadway, New York, NY 10004.
