If you have a talent and an idea for workshops, music, dance, literary, drama/comedy, demonstration/lecture events, THE RAA WANTS YOU. We’re looking for engaging, informative, entertaining, educational and artistic programs to bring people into our galleries during our exhibitions and throughout the year. Have something in mind? Call the RAA office and let’s talk!

The Rockaway Artists Alliance Presents … Vous! Every month the RAA general meeting hosts a new and different presentation featuring someone sharing her/his unique abilities, demonstrating his/her art or talking about art topics of interest to all. Previous presentations have included everything from cake decorating to metal casting, musical interludes to literary performances to film. Have something to share? Contact the RAA office and let us know!

Excellence was the defining word for InkSplash, from opening reception through closing reception. The printmaking exhibition gracing RAA’s sTudio 6 Gallery presented artwork done in a diverse range of printmaking techniques, often combining those techniques, from the traditional to the experimental; the participating artists thus demonstrated the expanding potential for creative expression in this medium.

The closing reception on Sunday, November 1 fittingly included an enlightening talk presented by several of the artists explaining the techniques they used.

Thank you to the artists (including Lenore Lim, braving Marathon Day traffic) who provided such insight into a medium that often seems distant and too difficult to the non-practitioner. They dispelled that misconception by simplifying and making printmaking understandable and approachable. Thanks go to the very attentive, receptive audience.

Your support makes these events possible. One married couple was about to leave, but upon learning of the talk that was to be given, turned around and came back into the gallery. Thank you, as always, to Penelope Atheras and Janet Dever for the beautifully presented refreshments.

Most especially, congratulations to InkSplash curator Christian Le Gars. It was this master printmaker’s vision, determination, charm and intimate knowledge of the printmaking world that created this exceptional exhibit and brought it to the RAA gallery. It also placed RAA on the website of the International Fine Print Dealers Association (IFPDA), whose prestigious annual Print Fair just closed at the Armory in Manhattan.

In addition, Le Gars has plans for a printmaking workshop at RAA in the near future.

“Gifted,” RAA’s annual holiday member exhibit, is on view Saturday, November 13 through Sunday, December 12. Each year treasures are found by visitors to sTudio 6 Gallery to bring home as gifts of the season to share with loved ones. Join RAA to welcome in the season with refreshments and live entertainment at the opening reception for “Gifted” on Sunday, November 14 from 12 to 4 p.m. Participating artists will be available to discuss their work.
