Argument Leads To Bashing

By Nicholas Briano

The argument occurred in the back of Hammel Houses. The argument occurred in the back of Hammel Houses. A Rockaway man once arrested in connection with a 2008 drug bust at the Hammel Houses was taken into custody again, this time for an alleged confrontation with a neighbor.

Donald Spellman, 20, of the Hammel Houses, got into a verbal dispute with a neighbor on October 17 at 6:00 a.m. behind the housing development. The argument resulted in Spellman allegedly taking a hammer and smashing the driver’s side mirror and passenger side headlight, according to the criminal complaint.

Spellman was charged with fourthdegree criminal mischief and was released on $1,000 bail. He was due back in court this week. Spellman was previously arrested in July 2008 for allegedly taking part in a massive drug dealing operation that resulted in 32 other arrests, including arrests of known gang members.

The defendants were charged with selling crack and powdered cocaine and marijuana to undercover officers. Sales were made near St. Rose of Lima School on Beach 84 Street and in front of the Hammel Day Care Center at Beach 82 Street and Rockaway Beach Boulevard.
