NY Cares Day At PS 317

On Saturday, October 23, 45 volunteers came to P.S. 317 to continue to beautify their building. Mural artists Carol Forestieri and Susan Baron, working with volunteers, transformed the schoolyard from a bare space to an underwater adventure. Additionally, volunteers painted line games in the schoolyard, organized closets, painted the parent room and planted flower bulbs that will bloom in the springtime. Volunteer groups included The Big Daddys, New York Collegiate Sections, Booth Street Club and BRAFF.

Dana Gerendasi, the principal of P.S. 317, says, “The transformation of our schoolyard is amazing. Our kids were so excited when they walked into the building on Monday and when they went out for recess. I have never seen kids so excited to play hopscotch or learn what Bocce is. I am truly grateful that we were able to be a part of New York Cares Day this year and I am so thankful to all the volunteers for the hard work they did on this day.”
